Les Couleurs: sculpture/ Les Formes: Peintures documents two complementary projects of Daniel Buren: Les Couleurs : Sculptures from 1975 and Les Formes : Peintures from 1977. Color photographs of Les Couleurs : Sculptures show Buren’s striped banners flown like flags at the top of buildings throughout the city of Paris. The banners in Les Formes : Peintures are installed beneath paintings in the Musé Nationale d'Art Moderne (and so are invisible) and the black-and-white photographs of this project show the identifying plaques next to the host paintings. Texts by Buren, Benjamin H.D. Buchloh, Jean-François Lyotard, and Jean-Hubert Martin are all in French.
